Intrauterine Insemination - Infertility Treatment By (IUI)

When medication and timed sexual activity are ineffective, IUI is typically the first course of treatment. Patients with a modest to moderate decline in sperm count and/or motility, as well as those with minor endometriosis, are advised to take it. Ovulation induction and IUI may be combined for women who do not ovulate consistently. Additionally, IUI may be suggested for some couples whose infertility (unexplained infertility) lacks any obvious aetiology.

What Conditions Must Be Met Before an IUI Procedure?

  1. confirmation of your ovulation, whether or not you're taking any drugs.
  2. Patent tubes
  3. a normal sperm count or a slight to moderate decrease

Who should go through IUI help?

Compared to more intrusive and expensive procedures like in vitro fertilisation, IUI is a comparatively benign and affordable fertility treatment (IVF). In some situations, couples might start with IUI before switching to IVF if necessary. IUI might be the only procedure required to become pregnant.

Treatment IUI Procedure

From the second or third day of your period for 5 to 10 days, you will typically be advised to take drugs (oral tablets and/or gonadotropin injections). Sonography will be used to check your response every 3–4 days. The final stage of ovulation will be induced with an injection of hCG after the follicle or follicles are of the proper size, and the IUI procedure will be scheduled about 36 hours later.

On the day of an IUI, your partner must supply a sample of his semen. A previously stored sample can also be used if a problem is suspected. After being processed in the lab, the semen sample is injected into the uterus. Following that, you can be given support drugs for the following 14 days, after which a serum beta-hCG test is performed to confirm pregnancy.
